PL# 117: "Shame: A Legacy of Childhood Experiences, Even Favorable Ones"
“Those who know themselves and understand their inner problems will also know what choices to make, even long before their inner problems are completely resolved. One is then in a position to act and to be in accord with eternal values.”
– PWL 117
Shame. To even read or speak the word conjures feelings of discomfort. Shame is the universal yet isolating feeling that we are secretly deeply flawed, and therefore unworthy of love and belonging.
Yet the guide tells us “the degree of ease and emotional comfort with which you can [discuss your shame] indicates your inner freedom.”
Renowned author and research professor Brené Brown echoes this, saying “shame cannot survive being spoken. It cannot survive empathy. It cannot tolerate having words wrapped around it.”
Let us begin the liberation process by wrapping some compassionate words around this concept – neither hiding our shame nor forcing exposure. Here we ask with gentleness, “what is my shame? Where does it come from?”
Join us to explore what the guide has to say about the relationship between our shame, our daily disharmonious feelings, and the path to inner freedom.
WHEN? Monday, July 7th : 6 -7:30pm EST
